Gerard Way

Gerard A. Way is an American singer, songwriter, and comic book writer. You may know him as the lead vocalist and co-founder of the rock band My Chemical Romance.

Gerard Way is one of my BIGGEST inspirations in terms of art and music. His works ("The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys", "The Umbrella Academy" and everything he's done with MyChem) are some of my favorite pieces of media EVER. They're like love letters to creativity, full of possibilities and what-ifs and goofy desert rebels and, at the heart of it all, love.

He always inspires me to create things and gives me courage to express myself, even if I'm scared to do it. My bedroom wall is decorated with photos of him and his art. He's so important to me as a creative that I have to thank him for all the work he's ever done. I think he's one of the greatest creative minds working in music right now.

He always reminds me that things will get better one day. I kind of look up to him as a symbol of hope because he managed to get better and overcome his drug abuse and suicidal thoughts. He makes me think that maybe one day it'll all get better and life won't be so terrible anymore and that maybe, just maybe, I'll get to grow old and overcome all my struggles.

I know all this probably sounds parasocial as hell but I love Gerard Way to pieces and he's incredibly important to on a personal level.
