Poem: Butterfly With Caterpillar Legs
When I was born they cried because
I was the color that no-one was
My brothers and sisters all brown and blue
While I had a curious, colourful hue
Mother inspected us all with care
And off we went to eat in pairs
I ate the most out of all
Scoured leaves both big and small
My siblings shuffled about me
And I laid down to sleep with glee
I could not wait for sleep to come,
For a beautiful butterfly I were to become!
Come morning I were to see,
My siblings emerged before me
The last I was out to crawl
All the butterflies began to bawl
'Oh, how horrid, what a sight!'
They shouted, young and bright.
'Look, our sister, she's awoken!
Everyone look at her awful legs!
Her body's gone all bad and broken,
We must send her back to bed!'
They swarmed around me and pushed me back,
Sewed me into my sleeping sack
I shouted and shouted,
Begged and cried
Still they relented
At last I sighed
From inside I began to weep
And settled into eternal sleep.
